ABAC Lecture Series - Rachael Price - Rediscovering Georgia Author Sarah Barnwell Elliot

Mon Nov 01 2021 7:00PM – 8:30PM | Mon Nov 01 2021

Event Description:

This presentation will examine the life and work of the novelist Sarah Barnwell Elliott (1848-1928). Elliott, a native of Georgia, was one of the most famous novelists in the United States at the close of the nineteenth century, but her work has since gone out of print and been largely forgotten—until now. ABAC's own student-staffed press, Horseman Press, is re-publishing her most famous work, Jerry (1891), this year. This lecture will highlight the rediscovery of Elliott as a progressive voice in the rural South during a watershed moment in American history.
